Notes

A number of Castillian kings have did not receive the title of Rex Castillium from the Hieros Council.

  • Enrique II and Ferdinand died before it was bestowed.
  • Jacques Cesar Praisse du Rachetisse was refused the title.
  • Ramon V was denied the title until 1526 when it was bestowed upon him.
  • Salvador II finally receives the title in 1671. (see Rapier’s Edge™ sourcebook)

Pedro I was the rightful heir; his title of Pretender originates from his claim to rule the Vaticine Church over the Hierophant (a claim which the Church ignored.)

Enrique II was insane by all accounts and took his own life when he could no longer bear the pressure of his Crown.

Alfonso II died as the result of a wasting disease that affected his son Ferdinand as well. Ferdinand was placed on the throne for seven months, at the end of which time the disease claimed him as well.

Carlos the Cruel attempted to have the Royal Guard murder his brother whom he wrongly suspected of plotting his overthrow. The guard, in a historic moment, refused to obey the king, thereby destroying his credibility and causing his eventual abdication.

Sancho earned the name “The Just” for his decision to name his nephew as his heir rather than his own son, and so restore the line of succession to that of his brother who had tried to have him killed.

Enrique III died of the White Plague outbreak in 1386 along with most of the royal family. Members of the Royal Guard were sent to Ussura to retrieve Tomas as the rightful heir to the crown.

Miguel is remembered as the Pious for his constant edicts correcting the Vaticine Church on numerous minor details. Miguel was always cautious to word his edicts in the most devout manner possible to avoid accusations of heresy.

Juan III died of an outbreak of White Plague. His son, Pedro II, also contracted the illness but lingered for 15 months before succumbing. Pedro demanded that his wife Beatriz be named his successor until the birth of his child. Queen Beatriz died from complications with the birth and her brother, Armando Ramirez de Aldana, served as regent until the boy’s eleventh birthday when he was crowned King. The Hierophant refused to grant the power of Rex Castillium to a boy so young but did so when Ramon V achieved adulthood.
