Peter McPherson talks about the origins of this little game in big space, leading up to its release. Let’s tear some wormholes in space-time!

I can point to the moment of inspiration for this game: re-reading Becky Chamber’s incredible book The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. The story focuses on a diverse crew of humans and aliens on a ship that links planets together with wormholes.

My goal was to create a game where players develop a network of wormholes that they and other players use to quickly hop around space. A sense of collective exploration and friendly interaction was key, even though one player would win in the end.
Here are some early notes and a name, which stuck very quickly.

I always try to make quick and cheap prototypes, and Wormholes was no different. The first playtest went smoothly, and I quickly played it with Indiana Nash , who trounced me despite my awesome wormhole network.
