Many of AEG’s Crowdfunding campaigns are managed on BackerKit after the campaign ends. BackerKit provides a service that allows our customers to change the configuration of their orders – change their Reward, and and subtract Add-ons, and provide their delivery address information. The system calculates the cost of shipping & handling and any tax that will be due, and collects payment.
BackerKit charges PayPal accounts when you complete the checkout of your order, and processes credit cards later when we instruct them to do so which is typically 4-8 weeks before fulfillment begins.
About 4 weeks after a campaign ends you will receive an email from BackerKit with a link to your order, which BackerKit calls a “Survey” for historical reasons. Your Reward selected on the crowdfunding platform (i.e. Kicktarter) and any funds already paid will appear on this order.
As we near the time of fulfillment you’ll receive emails from us notifying you that the window to change your order, adjust your delivery address, etc. is closing. After that time you won’t be able to make changes and you’ll receive what you ordered at the address on the order. A few weeks after that notice, we’ll charge your credit card for any outstanding balance due. A few weeks after that you’ll receive your order.
BackerKit is used by many successful Kickstarter campaigns and it is likely you may have more than one “Survey” on that platform. To enable you to keep them all organized, you can create a BackerKit account. If you use the same email you used with the crowdfunding platform (i.e. Kickstarter), you’ll be able to see all the campaigns and orders that you’ve made which are using BackerKit.
Some users experience challenges getting access to their Surveys / Orders. Here are some more detailed instructions if you need assistance.
To begin you should go to backerkit.com. You will see, in the upper right corner of the window, a set of options that looks like this:
If you are already logged into BackerKit you won’t see these options, instead you’ll see an icon that represents your account, which you can click to see a menu of options.
You should select “Log In”. If you have never created a BackerKit account, click the option “New to BackerKit? Sign Up”. If you have created a BackerKit account, log in with your username and password.
If you are creating a new BackerKit account be sure you are using the same email address that you used on the crowdfunding platform (e.g. Kickstarter).
Once you are logged in, there are two ways to see your Surveys / Orders.
First, you can click the icon that represents you in the upper right corner of the window, which produces a drop-down list, with a menu item to see Your Pledges & Surveys.
Or, second, you can click the link on the left navigation menu labelled “For You”
If you did the first thing, you will be taken to a screen that shows several options: Your Pledges on BackerKit, Your Surveys, Past Surveys, Recommendations & Upcoming Projects. Click “Your Surveys” to see all the current and available Surveys / Orders you have on BackerKit.
If you did the second thing, you’ll be taken to a screen that shows several options: “Your Pledges”, “Your Surveys” and “Your Profile”. Click “Your Surveys“. This will take you to the same place you would have ended up at via the first path.
Once you have reached Your Surveys you can click the links for these surveys to see the order details and make changes. On the order detail page you get when you click the link for one of your Survey / Orders, you will see a button “Edit Shipping Info”, which is how you can change your delivery address. You will see a button “Edit Add-ons” which is where you can change the Add-ons for this order. It’s not obvious, but you can change your Reward level here too, by clicking the hyperlink under “Your Pledge Level” in the header at the top of the screen.
There is a hyperlink on the screen that appears labelled “Switch Pledge Levels?” which you can click to change your Reward.
If the campaign allows you to change your Reward you can do it from the screen that appears after you click that link.
Back on the order screen you can see the status of your order. If the order is complete, ready to fulfill, and you don’t need to take any action you’ll see a message similar to this:
Of course, we may have emailed you more up-to-date information about the timing of the milestones for the campaign; you should rely on those emails and the information we continuously update at alderac.com/kickstarter.
Some Troubleshooting Tips
- Be sure you are using the same email address that you used on the crowdfunding platform (e.g. Kickstarter)
- If you used the AppleID private email system you’ll need to contact us ([email protected]) and tell us what your real email address is; the email provided by the AppleID private email system is unusable by anyone except the service you gave it to (e.g. Kickstarter).
- If you have changed the email address on your Survey / Order either by asking AEG to do it or asking BackerKit to do it you should use the email address that you believe is currently on your order.
- You may have more than one BackerKit account under more than one email address. You should try logging out of BackerKit completely, and logging in again using the account connected to the email address for the Survey / Order you are looking to review.
- BackerKit’s customer service can help you if you are having problems logging in. Ask them for help – they’re more than willing to work with you to solve your account issues.
- If you are logged into BackerKit and you cannot find a link to your Survey / Order, please email [email protected] and we can provide one to you.
